DIET Tadpoles Tadpoles are bottom feeders . They eat algae and decayed matter. They feed near the shore where the water surface, pond bottom and air meet Juvenile Frogs Young bullfrogs are active and catch creatures with their tongue which is attached to the front of their mouths. Their eyes are sensitive to movement. As they are usually looking up and catch flying insects. They will also eat worms and crawling insects Adult Frogs After sexual maturity is reached (about ½ pounds) the frogs perfer to sit on the bank and becomes a predator of opportunity. Anything, which is smaller than the frog, moves in the very shallow water or on the bank, may be eaten by the frog. This includes crawfish (the primary food source of frogs in South Louisiana), snakes, turtles, crabs and fish. |
